Contributing to the town
In September 2009 we unveiled the original version of our proposals for a new store to provide greater competition and customer choice for local shoppers.
We believe our proposals will not have a negative impact on the town centre’s prosperity. In addition, we propose to provide the following benefits:
- An hour’s free parking in Swan Meadow
- Free in-store advertising for local shops and market traders
- A new town gateway sign welcoming visitors
- Secure skateboard parking for local users
All of these suggested benefits arose following our liaison with local groups and the district council, and these shall go ahead if we receive permission for the store.
By reducing the size of the store, we have responded to feedback while still providing strong competition with other food stores for customers’ comprehensive weekly food shopping.
